Quranic Rulings on Zakat
"And establish prayer and give Zakat, and bow with those who bow [in worship and obedience]."
"Take from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke blessings upon them. Indeed, your blessing is reassurance for them. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing."
"Zakah is only for the poor and the needy, and those who administer it, and those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and for [freeing] those in bondage, and for those in debt, and for the cause of Allah, and for the wayfarer — an obligation from Allah. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise."
"And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give Zakat. And that is the correct religion."
Prophetic Traditions (Ahadith)
"Islam is built upon five pillars: testifying that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establishing the prayer, paying Zakat, making the pilgrimage to the House, and fasting in Ramadan."
"Whoever is made wealthy by Allah and does not pay the Zakat of his wealth, on the Day of Resurrection his wealth will be made like a bald-headed poisonous male snake with two black spots over the eyes. It will encircle his neck and say: 'I am your wealth, I am your treasure.'"
"Charity does not decrease wealth. No one forgives another but that Allah increases his honour, and no one humbles himself for the sake of Allah but that Allah raises his status."
"Protect your wealth by giving Zakat, treat your sick with charity, and repel calamity with supplication."
About Zakat
Zakat is the third pillar of Islam — an obligatory annual charity on wealth above the nisab threshold held for a full lunar year (haul). It purifies wealth and supports those in need.
Your wealth must meet or exceed the nisab on both your Zakat anniversary date and the day you pay. Temporary dips below nisab during the year do not void the obligation if both dates are met.
Zakat is obligatory on every Muslim adult who possesses wealth above the nisab at the end of the haul. In the Hanafi school, children's wealth held in trust is also zakatable.
Allah mentions eight categories in Surah At-Tawbah (9:60): the poor, the needy, Zakat administrators, those whose hearts are to be reconciled, freeing captives, debtors, in the path of Allah, and travellers.

The Four Pillars of Islamic Reflection
The practice of auditing one's own intentions, words, and deeds at day's end. Scholars consider it an obligation of the heart. Umar (RA) said: "Hold yourselves accountable before you are held accountable."
Reflecting on the signs of Allah in creation, the Quran, and one's own soul. Ibn al-Qayyim called tafakkur "the key to all goodness," and the Quran repeatedly calls those who reflect "the people of understanding" (ulu al-albab).
More than asking forgiveness — tawbah means genuinely returning to Allah with remorse for past wrongs, ceasing the action, and resolving not to return to it. It is both an act of love and a purification of the soul.
The state of constant awareness that Allah observes all things. It is the station of Ihsan described in Hadith Jibril: "Worship Allah as though you see Him, and if you cannot see Him, know that He sees you." (Bukhari and Muslim)
"Cleanliness is half of faith."

"Within it are men who love to purify themselves; and Allah loves those who purify themselves."

About Taharah
Taharah (طهارة) is ritual and physical purity. Islam divides it into two: freedom from physical impurities (najasah) on the body, clothes, and place of prayer; and freedom from states of ritual impurity (hadath). Both are prerequisites for valid prayer.
A minor ritual impurity (hadath asghar) is lifted by Wudu — caused by natural bodily functions, sleep, and unconsciousness. A major impurity (hadath akbar) requires Ghusl — caused by marital relations, ejaculation, and the end of menstruation or post-natal bleeding.
The Prophet ﷺ said: "The key to prayer is cleanliness." No prayer is valid without Wudu or Ghusl where required. Wudu is also required to touch the Mushaf. On the Day of Resurrection, the traces of wudu will be a source of light and honour for the believer.
Taharah is not merely physical. Calling it "half of faith" points to the inner dimension: purifying the heart from sins, arrogance, and spiritual heedlessness through tawbah (repentance), dhikr, and sincere worship. Physical and spiritual purity are deeply intertwined in Islam.
